Grants of up to £9,999 are available for communities in Crewe and Nantwich to encourage active travel

Walking and cycling grants

Grants are available to community groups in Crewe and Nantwich to encourage people to walk or cycle.

The grants have been secured from the Department of Transport’s Sustainable Travel Transition Year (STTY) funding. Cheshire East Council successfully bid for STTY funding earlier this year and aims to use the funding to widen access to skills, training and employment opportunities for local residents. For more information about the bid visit the public transport strategy pages on the Cheshire East Council website.

Small grants up to the value of £9,999 are now available to the following organisations:

  • Voluntary or community organisations, registered charities, or other not for profit organisations
  • Town or Parish Councils that can match fund at least 50% of projected schemes costs

Applications must demonstrate that they encourage active travel in Crewe and / or Nantwich for everyday travel when travelling to employment, skills and training.

The grants could be used for cycle led rides, cycle awareness courses, promotional events (such as bicycle breakfasts), bike loan schemes for people accessing skills, training or employment, or Dr Bike events to teach people bicycle maintenance.

All applications must be in-line with the assessment criteria as set out in the Policy for the Allocation of Transport & Accessibility Grants (PDF, 107KB).

Closing date for applications is 11th November 2016 and applicants will be informed of the decision within a six week period.
